Hoops Fight ALS was organized in 2019 as a 501(c)3 under the EIN, 83-1748739. Founded by a small group of former Michigan basketball players and staff, this strong and active alumni brotherhood raises awareness and funds to assist in fighting ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Since 2019, Hoops Fight ALS has over $75,000 to ALS specific research clinics and ALS support organizations.
Our basketball brotherhood is inspired by the strength and determination to fight ALS by one of our own family members, Mark Fisher. Mark is the son of our beloved former Head Coach, Steve Fisher (HC 1989 - 1997, Assistant 1982 - 1989). Diagnosed in 2011, Mark continues to overcome this disease and perform all the activities and functions of his daily life to the best of his ability. Blessed with great support from his local ALS Association and hard working research physicians across the country, Mark continues to be an advocate for ALS research and fundraising efforts. Hoops Fight ALS is extremely proud to help in the fight against this disease and the roughly 5000 people diagnosed with it annually. Through our financial support, we hope to one day be able to find a cure and win the fight against ALS.
